BACKGROUND

TIMB intends to drill and equip boreholes with solar-powered pumping systems at selected beneficiary schools. Table below shows the identified schools and their location.

OBJECTIVES

• To provide reliable, sustainable, and clean water supply to beneficiary institutions.
• To utilize renewable energy solutions (solar power) to reduce operational costs and ensure environmental sustainability.
• To promote community ownership and long-term functionality of the water systems.

SCOPE OF WORK

The contractor shall be responsible for:

1. Site Assessment and Mobilization

• Conduct hydrogeological surveys to confirm drilling points.
• Mobilize drilling equipment and materials.

2. Borehole Drilling and Development

• Drill boreholes to depths determined by hydrogeological survey.
• Install appropriate casing and screens.
• Develop borehole to achieve maximum sustainable yield.

3. Water Quality Testing

• Conduct water sampling and testing for potability in line with Zimbabwean standards.

4. Solar Pumping System Installation

• Supply and install solar panels, submersible pumps, controllers, and all necessary fixtures.
• Provide a secured solar mounting structure.
• Supply and install a 10 000l water storage tank.
• Construct (brick) tank stand and distribution points (taps).

5. Capacity Building and Training

• Train local community/school representatives on system operation and routine maintenance.

6. Post-Installation Support

• Provide operation manuals and warranties for pumps and solar equipment.
• Offer a minimum 12-month defects liability period.

4. DELIVERABLES

• Fully functional solar-powered borehole at each designated site.
• Water quality test certificates.
• Technical report including drilling logs, yield test results, and GPS coordinates of borehole.
• Handover and commissioning report signed by TIMB, community representatives, and contractor.

5. DURATION

The works should be completed within 2 months from site handover.
